Uberlândia Airport – Lieutenant Colonel Aviator César Bombonato (UDI)
Uberlândia Airport – Lieutenant Colonel Aviator César Bombonato (UDI) is the second largest airport in Minas Gerais in terms of capacity and airport site area. The unit has become an important gateway to Alto Parnaíba and the Triângulo Mineiro region, which has shown a vocation for business tourism. One of the main cities in Minas Gerais, Uberlândia stands out for its potential in providing services and its industries.
With capacity for 3.9 million passengers per year, Uberlândia Airport – Lieutenant Colonel Aviator César Bombonato began to be managed by Aena Brasil on October 10, 2023, after the concessionaire purchased a block of 11 Brazilian airports at an auction by National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), held in 2022.
As it has already managed, since 2020, six terminals in the Northeast, Aena Brasil now operates a total of 17 airports in the country. The company is part of the Spanish group Aena, considered the largest airport operator in the world in terms of number of passengers. Over the next 30 years, the concession period, Aena Brasil will carry out works to improve the unit's infrastructure, which, over the years, has undergone a growth process to meet the demands of the surrounding area.
The airport has been managed by Infraero since 1980. Much earlier, in 1935, the history of the equipment began with the first official landing on the runway at the then Uberlândia Aviation Field. Only in 2001, the aerodrome received its current name Uberlândia Airport – Lieutenant Colonel Aviator César Bombonato, named after a military aviator born in Uberlândia.
In August 2005, Infraero completed the expansion and modernization of the terminal, which, at the time, gained new departure and arrival halls, as well as a new food court. In 2019, revitalization on the runway allowed the operation of medium-sized aircraft.
The most recent work to renovate, expand and modernize the Passenger Terminal was completed in October 2021. The investment made it possible to double the unit's capacity, which was just 1.7 million passengers per year. The baggage claim sector gained two conveyors. New elevators and toilets were also installed.
Currently, the unit has a paved runway measuring 2,100 meters long and 45 m wide, located at an altitude of 943 meters. With more than five thousand square meters of total area, the airport operates with a modern air conditioning system and is completely adapted for accessibility for people with special needs.
